Keurig Problems

Easily solve your Keurig Coffee Maker problems here.keurig problems

Oddly enough (as you can read for yourself in the comments below) the one option that fixes most Keurig Coffee Makers is…

“Whack the machine on the back, with an open hand, very hard several times and – 99% of the time this will bring the coffee maker back to life.”

Also, descaling is a myth; the Keurig makers don’t scale up to the extent that they need to be de-scaled.

My B70 quit pulling water into the reservoir and water quit flowing all the way thru the system. It would read “brewing” and occasionally “De-Scale”. I followed the whacking on the back, the vinegar, AND one more solution to add the mix – a small basketball pump to force the air from where the water enters the reservoir on thru the clogged area. I did this concurrently and it is working perfect again!

What do I do?

My Keurig is none even 1 year old yet and last week it just decided not to work any more. I have banged the back to no avail.
I am very disappointed, it was a birthday gift from my chidren so I do not have the box nor the receipt. I guess the only solution is to trash it.

This is the second coffee maker I have had from you with the first ones motor burning out.
I can’t get any coffee to come out! I have used vinegar, a paper clip to try to unclog areas, even though I’m not sure it is clogged, I wanted to try everything to try and fix it before writing you. Just not sure what to try any more. It stopped working at a really
inopportune time also re: I had guests!!!
Have a boat load of pods, be a shame to not be able to use them.
Please advise as to what I should try/do next!
Thanks so much

OK – for all you Keurig lovers that are frustrated by your machines, here’s what I found for my B70………if you take your wee machine, touch your BREW button (leave a used K-cup in there), and while it is brewing – GIVE IT A GOOD RAP ON THE BACK OF THE MACHINE, UP TOWARD THE TOP OF THE MACHINE. Now, I do not mean a little tap – you have to give it a pretty good smack – mine actually needed three (3) SMACKS before it stopped sending water into the reservoir. But it solved the problem – Woo Hoo!!

It seems there is a valve that becomes clogged and the only way to unclog it is to knock the living @*%& out of the back of the machine to remove the clog GO FIGURE!!!

Good luck to you – I know how frustrating this is.

THANK YOU for this wonderful solution to the problem of not making a cup of coffee. I did not know what was wrong. But, like many others my brewer started only producing a small amount of brewed coffee and then it completely quit. I followed your recommendation and “beat the devil” out of it and it began to work immediately. I had to hit it more than two or three times so mine must have been really blocked. So don’t be gentle really hit it hard. All you guys are great.

Oh, and my best friend also thought I was full of crap when I started smacking it, and he didn’t believe it would work since, “I read it on the internet”. But I just smiled smugly, (prayed silently), and was vindicated when he got his full mug of coffee. “I knew it would work. The internet told me so”.

The latter I had not requested, for I already had four voxes of said tea – for visitors, since I do not imbibe such. I called Keurig complaining. A person stated that there was no tea on the order form. That was it – no offer to investigate. Naturally, order arrive with two uwanted and unneeded boxes of “celestial” breakfast tea. Now, I have SIX boxes thereof. I ect expect some satisfactory solution.

I also need some help in preventing the maker from shutting off. Every other time
I want acup it is off removing the advantage of convenence. Said Menu is light years from intuitive. Perhaps the menu is defective

Recently my Keurig coffee maker has been making a larger hole than usual in the top (foil) portion of the K-cup. Also, as a result of this, the coffee grinds seem to end up in my mug or on the outside of the machine when I remove the K-cup. I’ve tried cleaning the needle and the coffee maker itself but the problem has not dissolved. What else can I do?

Thanks,

I’ve had my Keurig for about 4 months, but during the summer we didn’t unpack and use it. Started using it in mid-October. It’s one of the new models – dark red with miltiple cup size settings. Bought it at Kohl’s as a gift. We do not use tap water. Between my nieces and I, we generally brew 8 to 12 cups of tea per day. We do not brew coffee.

Until this past week, it has been wonderful. Now it’s developed a mind of its own -

Sometimes it brews the cup size requested, sometimes not (when not always smaller than anticipated).

Sometimes it shuts itsself off (sometimes after brewing a cup and sometimes within a minute or so of turning it on).

Sometimes it decides to pretend to brew, then dispenses cold water.

Tim,

Typically the Keurig makers heat to a max of 192 degrees – some models allow a lower setting at about 180 degrees – if you model doesn’t have the temp function in the menu there’s not much you can do (except utilize the microwave after brewing).

Has anyone else had a problem with ants infesting their Keurig? A couple of days ago, I noticed a few tiny black ants on my counter. I lifted the Keurig up to clean and noticed ants and ant eggs falling out of the vent on the bottom of the coffee maker. GROSS. To my thinking the coffee maker provides a spot the ants love – always warm, dark, with water. I called Keurig and they were unhelpful and told me it was an “environmental problem.” (They also recommended I descale my coffee maker….not sure what that had to do with anything.) I wanted to find a way to clean the unit, without ruining the coffee maker. There are no ants anywhere else in my house…just the coffee maker. Too bad…I really liked my coffee maker.

@Anne Lebrecht:
I have the same problem, but last night at our dinner party ours finally just quit working completely. I have the B70, and I paid nearly 200 dollars for it just 2 & 1/2 years ago. Over the last 2 months I was getting the “descale” message, which I have always done when the message appears, but even after I descaled recently, the message continually comes back. I have descaled 3 times in the last 2 months due to the message coming up. I have always used filtered water with the Keurig, and the last month or so the water dispensed was less than the usual amount for any chosen size (4 sizes with my model). I turned off the Keurig, unplugged it hoping to reset whatever was going wrong, and it would work okay for a couple of cups. Then, the descale message came back and it would only dispense one size of the 4 sizes possible. I know it’s some sort of malfunction, but as it’s a coffee maker meant to be used used many times throughout the day, I am really disappointed.

[Reply]

Trish Reply:

I just wrote to Keurig to report that my 2 1/2 year old B70 will now not turn on. I hear a click and the blue illumination will not come on, and it simply has stopped working after a couple of months of having to descale it repeatably doing it when the descale message popped up, issues with the quantity of water coming out, and inability to pick the desired size cup I wanted. It has to be a computer malfunction, as I have always maintained it and used filtered water. I’d love to hear from other users if they had the same issues and if I can fix it. I love my Keurig, but am extremely disappointed in the short life for a product that cost me nearly 200.00, not to mention the very pricey k-cups that I have invested in over the years.

I have ants in my Keurig as well. Called Keurig and they told me it was an environmental problem, but I have them nowhere else in the house. I am so annoyed because I have heard from several posts on line that other people are having same problem. We cleaned it, cleaned the area and everything, but still there are ants. Why won’t Keurig make good by replacing machine or fixing problem???

[Reply]

admin Reply:

Cindy,

Frankly, there is no way Keurig can be responsible for your ant infestation – use ant traps; call a pest specialist, etc. Your coffee maker warranty is based on the coffeemaker itself.

I just bought my second brewer. We had our first brewer for a 2-3 years, with no problems at all. We used it multiple times per day and NEVER turned it off. It finally died in March. Now yesterday our B70 appears to be sending as much water back to the reservoir as it does to the cup. I did not notice the water returning to the reservoir at first, just noticed I was not getting my usual cup of coffee. I cleaned the reservoir and the upper area where the K-cup goes – no difference. Trying to get somewhere with Keurig is just adding more frustration. I am hoping you can help me.

My 4th one in less than two years is going bad. I bought them at Costco, and Costco takes them back. i’ve not had one keep working for more than 4 months.

This one acts like the previous one, starts making less and less coffee each time. It does not need de-scaling, no air-lock, I use only steam distilled water and its clean as a whistle. The needle is also not clogged with coffee grounds.

It does get used a lot, averages 4-6 cups a day.

I am really hoping starbucks comes out with a better coffee maker (Reliable). I like the coffee, and have a lot of it (hundreds of k-cups) in my closet, or I might just stop replacing them.

I love the Keurig also. I have bought 4 Keruig machines (some as gifts) and am now on my third Breville. This web site is a true faith builder in the product. The k-cup machine is wonderful for all without the recurrent problems. Keurig needs to develop their own descale to use once every month, that works! Vinegar process has to be repeated often even when using filtered water. The valve on the back is the other major repeating problem. Would like to have a replacement valve, or have the descaler clean the valve as it is descaling the unit.
Looking foward to your book.

But the screen will not allow me to brew it. I’ve tried resetting it and waiting waiting. But will never say ready.I’ve always had issues with it doing weird things with the screen but I’ve always been able to get it to work, this morning, nothing. I’m gonna scrap the Keurig if it doesn’t resolve somehow and look for a more reliable coffee maker. I’ve regretting turned alot of people onto the Keurig. Never again! So done w/POS!

So on my second Keurig today the descale light was on. I put the vinegar in but it only cycled a half cup(or nothing) and water came out the air vent on top of the reservoir(like the first defective machine I had replaced). Tried everything from cleaning with the help line over the phone to whacking the machine many times. I also have drops after the cup is full or half full and the word brewing stays on for a minute after it’s done filling the cup.

If the reservoir is full, it sometimes works and the descale light goes away. But a small o shows up on the screen above the W in the word brewing. That’s something I haven’t seen anyone post about. If it flashed on and goes off, the machine stops also…They’re sending me my 3rd Keurig but would like to fix this!

Hi Jeannette, did you try the “whack it hard” fix – seems to work for most everyone.

Let me know.

The problem I have with the coffee maker is that the blue light in the resevoir keeps flashing and it will not pump the water, I have wacked it in the back several times to no avail and I have shaken it and still the problem persists, any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank You

Terry, I gave it 6 good slaps, any harder and it will break and the problem still persists, I am on the verge of buying a Tassimo if the problem is not corrected.

I just looked up the Tassimo . It looks good,do you know anyone that one?Don`t
want to make another big mistake.

@mike kleinert: Hi, This is Ken E. My vet has a Tassimo in their office for over a year and the staff report they have not had any problems! Do not think the tassimo has the variety of blends as the kcups, but believe that will change. Seems to me a lawyer somewhere should have bought a Keruig and I hope will bring a legal class action against Keurig. The evidence about the unsolved problems are all over the internet. Others like me in good faith have tried several of the Keruigs and still have the same unsolved complaints.

I read all the comments and tried the “whack it hard” method…It worked great! Our descale light has never come on (We’ve only had it 8 months) and I use filtered water and the filter in the Keurig, so I didn’t think it needed to be descaled. I was getting ready to descale anyway. I found your site and now I don’t have to deal with it tomorrow

Thank you!

No matter how hard I try, I can’t get the Keurig to close once I put a K-cup in there. It makes me sad as it was working fine yesterday. But today it won’t freaking close no matter how hard I try to get it to close. Please help!

@mike kleinert: My Keirug is possessed! When I make a cup of coffee it doesn’t make as much coffee as it should, stops and then starts again and won’t stop. So I have to always have two mugs ready to catch the mess!! This was not a cheap coffee maker so it should last longer!!!!

I am not happy with these keurig coffee pots. I have had 3 replacement this year with the last one being maybe 3 months ago and it is doing the same thing. There has to be a problem with the machine . It works fine and then it goes back to not filling the cup to the button that is pushed. I have descaled it, cleaned the needle out . used filter refrigerator water and I am frustrated and don’t know what else to do. I am sure I can’t be the only one having these problems and wonder what I can do. Its not a cheap coffee pot but why the problem. I love it for the fact that you can do one cup at a time and don’t waste coffee. But I had a Mr Coffee pot for 10 years with no problem but was wasting so much coffee and decided to go to the Keurig. Please let me know what can be done!!!!

I can not believe that the cure for the Machine dumping water out of the vent is to Wack the %$&@ out of it and it works. Has Keurig made this part of the operations? LOL! anyway this seems to fix the issue with the water flowing out the bypass vent. We have found this out after taking the machine apart and finding nothing wrong and out of sheer frustration I smack the thing on the back and it worked. Been fine so far. Great machine but Keurig should really correct the problem the correct way. USE HIGHER GRADE VALVES.

I get nothing out of my Keruig. Actually, at times I’ll get about 1/4 inch of liquid in a cup when brewing. The liquid comes out in a few drops at a time taking about 5 minutes to accumulate the 1/4 inch in the cup. This unit is less than one year old. Wacked it, nothing changes. Any ideas?

My Keurig Coffee maker just stopped filling my cup with coffee. I am disapointed to find out that others have had the same problem and no solutions have been given to resolve this problem. Is there a way to repair this problem? Or can you recoment a repair facility?

@Anne Lebrecht: I got my Kuerig brand new for Xmas 2009 brand new! My husband got me all the accessories, etc., now for no apparent reason it has decided not to brew a full cup of coffee, not even expresso size! The coffee maker starts, says brewing but no real amt. of water goes down, maybe 1 or 2 ozs. come out then it goes from “brewing” to “ready to brew” with only a brief flash at “not ready to brew” and no water goes down to fill replace the water it “should” have used. Please let me know if this is happening to anyone else.

My keurig shows “prime” Whacking has not helped. The reservoir is almost full (it made one cup of coffee before “prime” came on) and the light in the reservoir is flashing. What now. I got mine the end of August, 2011!

my keurig (i think b70) has started to constantly turn itself off and I have to reset all the settings! some times 3-4 times in a row before it decides to brew. Turning it off and on sometimes helps but not always. Dont have the box since it is 10 months old, can i return it to bed bath and beyond (where i bought it) or should i slap the crap outta it? I cleaned the needle but didnt help, will run vinegar thru it tonight when i get home, please reply> Thanks
